Sheriff: Four charged in Cohocton gang assault case

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that from August 19th through 23rd deputies arrested  four defendants in connection with an investigation of a reported gang assault which occurred in Cohocton. 

On August 12th deputies were dispatched to State Route 371 in the Town of Cohocton in response to a report of an assault. 

It is alleged that Nicholas Chatterton, Dakota Fairbrother, Michelle Dunham and Haley Kretchmer assaulted one victim, causing serious physical injury, and a second victim causing physical injury. 

All defendants were arraigned in the Town of Cohocton Court, Mr. Chatterton and Ms. Dunham were remanded to Steuben County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bail bond. 

Mr. Fairbrother was remanded to Steuben County Jail and subsequently released on $1,000 bail. Ms. Kretchmer was released on her own recognizance. All four are to reappear in the Town of Cohocton Court at a later date.

Sheriff Allard reports the following charges:

Nicholas M. Chatterton, 23, of Leicester arrested on August 23th and charged with Gang assault in the first degree, Assault in the second degree, and Conspiracy in the fourth degree.

Michelle A. Dunham, 17, of Cohocton arrested on August 23th and charged with Gang assault in the first degree, Assault in the second degree, and Conspiracy in the fourth degree.

Dakota M. Fairbrother, 17, of Wayland, arrested on August 19th and charged with Gang assault in the first degree, Assault in the second degree, and Conspiracy in the fourth degree.

Haley S. Kretchmer, 18, of Wayland arrested on August 19th and charged with Gang assault in the first degree, Assault in the third degree, and Conspiracy in the fourth degree.
