Residents displaced by fire that damaged home in Fleming

A home in Fleming suffered extensive damage in a fire Saturday.

Fleming Assistant Fire Chief Chris Lawton said a call came in for a garage fire at 5637 Silver Street Road at 12:41 pm., and the blaze eventually spread to the attached home. Firefighters from several area departments responded to help fight the fire and help out with the cleanup afterward.

Lawton said the fire was extinguished at 1:15 p.m. and the cause was still being investigated Saturday afternoon. All occupants had been evacuated. According to property records, the home is owned by James and Joan Hogan. Silver Street Road was blocked off from Sand Beach to Glanville roads by emergency personnel for about three hours as firefighters worked at the scene.

The entire garage was destroyed, and portions of the home and roof were damaged. Emergency personnel could be seen moving in and out of the building and to different vehicles.

Lawton said the home was not habitable and the occupants would be working with the Red Cross for temporary accommodations. Lawton said he could not say if the building was salvageable.
