Anthony Road to host 17th annual Federweisser Festival

Anthony Road Wine Company is hosting their 17th annual Federweisser Festival on Saturday, September 22 from noon to five. The festival is a celebration to kickoff the 2018 harvest season. Federweisser- a partially fermented, frothy, young, wine made from the first fruits of the harvest- will be flowing all afternoon.

The celebration will feature traditional German fare including bratwurst, sauerkraut, german potato salad and more from Blowin’ Smoke BBQ. Live music will be performed by the Michael George Gonzalez Duo and Rebecca Colleen & The Chore Lads.

Each year during the festival, the children of the Anthony Road Wine Company family host a benefit bake sale for Keuka Comfort Care Home.

Liz Caster, tasting room manager at Anthony Road Wine Company, is looking forward to this year’s bake sale, “Federweisser is always an upbeat, fun event – getting ready for harvest and welcoming fall. I do enjoy having the bake sale with the kids to raise money for the Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan – people are always really generous.” Her mother and Anthony Road Wine Company co-owner, Ann Martini, explained that they began the Federweisser Festival in 2001 at the suggestion of the wine-maker at the time, “Johannes Reinhardt from Germany had been with us for a year. He suggested that we do the festival that they do where he is from in Southern Germany.” The festival was a hit, and while it has changed over the years, it promises to be a fun way to celebrate the opening of the harvest season.

Federweisser Festival is a family friendly event with yard games, food, music and fun for folks of all ages. Michael George Gonzalez Duo will kickoff the festival at noon, followed by Rebecca Colleen and the Chore Lads from 2:30-4:30. Admission is free.
