Geneva man arraigned on manslaughter charge following 2017 burglary

A 23-year-old Geneva man has been arraigned on a manslaughter charge after an investigation into a 2017 burglary.

Jeffery A. Salone Jr., 29, of Geneva was arraigned in Ontario County Court for first-degree manslaughter, a felony, in connection with the September 2017 death of Jawuan D. Brumfield of Rochester, said Geneva Police Lt. Matthew Valenti.

Brumfield’s cause of death was not clarified by law enforcement.

Geneva police were called to a residence on Hallenbeck Avenue shortly before 5 am on September 17th, 2017 to investigate a burglary in progress and found Brumfield injured and unresponsive. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he died the following day.

Salone was arrested on an indictment warrant Monday, pleaded not guilty in Ontario County Court and was remanded to the Ontario County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to return to court on August 21st.
