Carmelo Anthony officially signs 1-year deal with Rockets for $2.4M

Former Syracuse basketball star Carmelo Anthony has officially joined the Houston Rockets.

Melo signed a one-year deal for $2.4 million on Monday, the NBA team announced. The deal is for the veteran’s minimum salary, which he’ll receive in addition to a $27.9 million buyout from the Atlanta Hawks.

Anthony was traded earlier this summer from the Oklahoma City Thunder to Atlanta, who bought out his contract and made him a free agent.

He reportedly chose the Rockets in part due to his close relationship with star point guard Chris Paul, and the team’s potential for an NBA championship. Houston reached the Western Conference finals last year after posting the league’s best record, but lost in the series to eventual champion Golden State Warriors.
