The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 37-year-old Newark resident after a larceny investigation in Lyons.
Sarah J. Buffett, 37 of Newark was charged after an investigation into a larceny at the Lyons Manor apartments located at 31 Pearl Street in the Town of Lyons.
It is alleged that while Buffett was visiting with friends at a resident’s apartment, she left to visit an elderly neighbor. This elderly neighbor had just left the apartment that Buffett was visiting.
After the visit with the neighbor, Buffett offered to carry the neighbors purse back to the original apartment that they were heading to. When they got back, Buffett went straight into the bathroom with the purse. When she came out, the neighbor checked her purse and approximately $375 in cash and her car keys were missing.
The neighbor knew that the cash and the car keys were in the purse because she checked after she locked her door and handed Buffett her purse.
The next day, that resident had dropped a q-tip behind the toilet and found two bank envelopes tucked away that the neighbor was missing from her purse where she kept her money.
Buffett was subsequently arrested for Petit Larceny and was released on an appearance ticket to appear back in the Lyons Town Court at a later date.
