A state prison that closed four years ago was sold at a public auction Tuesday.
The state Office of General Services announced that Canadian-based Adar Investment, Inc., purchased the former Chateaugay Correctional Facility in Franklin County for $600,000.
The runner-up at the auction was Alpha Daycare NYC. The third-highest bidder was Robert Potenza.
A representative for Adar Investment said that the company plans to use the shuttered state prison as a Jewish summer camp.
There were nine registered bidders at the auction, which began at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Chateaugay Town Hall. The minimum bid was $100,000.
“The auctioning of unneeded and unused state-owned properties is a priority for Governor Cuomo,” said Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito. “We look forward to when the community will see a new use for the former Chateaugay Correctional Facility.”
