RAIN ARRIVES: Region sees much needed rainfall

The Finger Lakes is going to get some much needed rain this weekend after a comfortable, cloudy day on Saturday.

FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil says the excessively warm weather should be over for the time being, but the big change will come in precipitation.

Rain is expected to overtake the region late-Saturday – beginning around 7 pm. He says the heaviest rain will fall during the overnight hours – becoming lighter by 6 am.

Montreuil says most of the region will experience at least a half-inch of rain, with some parts of the region getting over an inch of new rainfall. It’s much needed rainfall since the Finger Lakes has been locked in an ‘abnormally dry’ pattern, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, who even elevated parts of the northern Finger Lakes into Level 1 drought category.

Montreuil notes though that rainfall will be common throughout the week, as showers and storms remain in the forecast for the new work week.
