The Wayne County 911 Center reports an out of hospital child birth in the Town of Arcadia.
On Wednesday at 04:26 am the 911 Center received a call from an individual reporting that she was in labor. Acting quickly, Dispatcher Sarah Wood performed Emergency Medical Dispatch instructions to help the caller deliver the child.
The Wayne County 911 Center is honored to report that Dispatcher Sarah Wood assisted the caller with delivering a baby girl at 04:30am. The mother and child were transported to the hospital by Newark Ambulance. Also assisting on scene were Wayne County Sheriff Dept.
Dispatcher-assisted child births are rare in Wayne County, with only a very small number happening each year. All dispatchers in Wayne County are trained to National/International Academies of Emergency Dispatch standards and certified as Emergency Medical Dispatchers, prepared to respond when needed.
