Criticism clouds Geneva city manager search

City Council meets again today to discuss city manager candidates amid continued criticism from some corners that two of the three apparent finalists are questionable, based on their work histories.

Many in the city are pushing for Acting City Manager Sage Gerling to be named the permanent replacement for Matt Horn, who left the job in January.

The meeting, to be held in executive session, starts at 6 p.m. in the second-floor conference room at City Hall, 47 Castle St.

Hannah Dickinson, a member of the Geneva Women’s Assembly, which has been critical of the search process and two of the reported finalists, said group members and other allies plan to protest Tuesday by writing chalk messages on the sidewalk in front of City Hall where Council is meeting. The group protested in front of City Hall at Council’s last executive session discussion of manager candidates on June 27.

In a recent development, one of those apparent finalists, based on names published by Geneva Believer blogger Jim Meaney, could potentially be out of the running because of a job offer in Florida.

That would leave two candidates, including Gerling.
