Suspect sought after hit-and-run boating accident on Cayuga Lake

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a person involved in a boating crash that happened over the weekend on Cayuga Lake.

On Saturday around 10:38 pm the suspect crashed into another occupied boat, causing major damage. That accident occurred directly east of Taughannock Falls State Park, shortly after the fireworks event, according to officials.

At that point the suspect fled the scene and headed south on Cayuga Lake.

“Observers on scene stated that the offending vessel appeared to have a white bottom, red/maroon top side, and was approximately 21 ft in length with a canvas folding top,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

The suspect’s vessel likely has damage to its bow and port-side.

Anyone with information regarding the incident contact the non-emergency dispatch line at (607) 272-2444, the main Sheriff’s Office at (607) 257-1345, or the Tip Line at (607) 266-5420.
