K-9 used to locate Penn Yan man who fled officers near Keuka Outlet Trail

The Penn Yan Police Department says a 23-year-old Hamilton Street resident was arrested on multiple charges, including assault, and government obstruction after an incident near the Keuka Outlet Trail.

Police arrested Tyler B. Davis, 23, of Penn Yan on Sunday around 10:44 pm after receiving a report of a sick or intoxicated subject lying near the Outlet Trail.

Upon arrival, officers observed Davis get up and walk down stairs leading to the Outlet Trail. They followed Davis and told him to stop, which resulted in him running away.

Officers say they pursued him, and told him to stop multiple times. During the process, Davis threw a bicycle at officers in an attempt to escape. They continued the pursuit on the trail with assistance from the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Ribo from the Sheriff’s Office.

The K9 was called in when Davis disappeared into thick foliage off the trail. A short time later he was located hiding on an embankment and officers were able to take him into custody without further incident.

Davis was charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and obstructing governmental administration.

He was held at the Yates County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail.

The charges will be answered at a later date.

During the incident, police report that an officer suffered a minor injury and was transported to Soldiers & Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan.
