Southern Cayuga school board picks new president, vice president

New leaders will head the Southern Cayuga Central School District Board of Education for the next school year.

The board elected Susan Gloss president and Michael Huber as vice president at a board meeting at Southern Cayuga Jr.-Sr. High School Thursday.

Gloss was nominated by board member Ann LaFave and seconded by Christine Brozon. The appointment was approved unanimously by the board.

Gloss, a librarian at Wells College, has been on the board for nine years and had served as vice president for two separate years. She said she wants to continue the district’s project-based learning programs and continue to encourage students to take on cocurricular and extracurricular activities.

“I’m very excited about working with this group of people. They’re dedicated to promoting education and to our school district,” Gloss said.

Huber was nominated for the vice president role by LaFave, seconded by Matt Bennett. The board approved him unanimously. Huber, who started with the board in 2017, said he believes he will be able to balance his newfound duties with his position as the executive director of camp and retreat ministries for the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church and director of Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center.
