Auburn woman driving drunk had 8-month-old in back seat, police say

A 32-year-old Auburn woman was arrested on felony drunk driving charges Tuesday after police said they found her driving with an 8-month-old child in her vehicle.

Auburn police charged Jenna Marie Shortsleeve, of 13 Augustus St., with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, as well as driving while intoxicated first-offense, a misdemeanor.

Deputy Chief Roger Anthony said Shortsleeve was pulled over after failing to stop at a red light at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Swift Street, one of several points closed for traffic during the Fourth of July celebrations at nearby Emerson Park.

After being pulled over, Shortsleeve failed a field sobriety test, including a breath test. Police also discovered an 8-month-old child in the back seat of her vehicle, leading to the felony charge. Shortsleeve also later refused to submit to a chemical test, Anthony said.
