It appears a 15-year veteran of the Geneva Police Department is likely to become the city’s next chief.
Acting City Manager Sage Gerling said Tuesday that several meet-and-greet sessions have been set up for the public to meet Lt. Michael Passalacqua. Each date will include a question-and-answer session.
“It is an honor and a sincere privilege to serve Geneva and I feel blessed to be considered for this role,” Passalacqua said. “I am looking forward to each of the candidate meet-and-greets and welcome any conversations from anyone in the city and hope people come out from all neighborhoods in the city.”
Geneva PD Chief Jeff Trickler said last month that he will be retiring from the position in July. He has been with the department for 22 years, the last seven as chief.
The city manager appoints the police chief. A list of eligible candidates is generated from police chief promotional and open competitive exams held earlier this year by Ontario County.
Results from the civil service process were made available last month. Gerling said on the promotion eligible list, the city had two internal candidates but only one — Passalacqua — is now interested in the job.
