Boat bursts into flames near Kershaw Park on Saturday (video)

Four people and three dogs suffered just minor injuries after a boat burst into flames near Kershaw Park on Canandaigua Lake Saturday.

Deputies say Eugene B. Allaire, 56, of Penn Yan was aboard his 1989 Thompson Brothers boat with his passengers on the north end of Canandaigua Lake near Kershaw Park when a fire broke out near the engine compartment area.

All three of his passengers, as well as their three dogs all extricated themselves from the boat. Within a minute the Sheriff’s Marine Unit was on-scene, providing relief for those who had jumped into the water.

The Canandaigua Fire Department was escorted to the boat by Marine Patrol and used fire extinguishers to help put out the fire.

All of the occupants suffered minor burns to their legs. They were examined by members of the Canandaigua Ambulance team and declined transport to the hospital.

The dogs were uninjured, according to deputies.

The boat is a total loss and was not insured. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, according to deputies, who say that it likely started with a mechanical issue.

The Canandaigua Police Department assisted at the scene as well.
