With a little inspiration from her son and a desire to escape corporate America, Colleen Hamilton opted for a more chill job: running an ice cream shop.
Hamilton said she's always wanted to own a business and felt it was time to leave her stressful job as a project manager at Pall Corp. to do something different and put her business degree to good use.
"This is something I've always dreamed of, and it was time to actually make it happen," Hamilton said.
She added that one of her sons passing away five years ago shaped her outlook. "It was like, 'You know what? Do what you want to do — don't be unhappy. You only live once. Don't regret it.'"
One day Hamilton announced to her husband, Phil, that she was opening a business and he said 'OK.'
