It hasn’t taken the Wayne County Regional Land Bank Corporation long to get rolling on its effort to address blight.
The Land Bank was issued a certificate of incorporation just a couple of months ago from the state, and at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, it obtained its first three properties.
Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution to transfer three county- foreclosed properties — in Lyons, Palmyra and Sodus — to the Land Bank.
The Land Bank’s Board of Directors — comprising county supervisors and some department heads — now has the option to either rehabilitate, stabilize, demolish and/or re-sell the properties.
Its formation is the outgrowth of efforts to address derelict properties, which county officials say is a growing problem.
The ultimate goal is to improve communities by reducing the number of properties that may be deemed unsightly and/or unsafe and which could be negatively affecting neighborhoods — and dragging down property values in the process.
