Half Acre Union Church in Aurelius open after rebuilding from fire

Half Acre Union Church is now in full operation after rebuilding from a devastating fire that destroyed the church building more than two years ago.

The Aurelius church continued hosting services elsewhere after the formerly 100-year-old building caught fire in November 2015, but Pastor Harry Dow said he wants people to know a new building has been constructed and the church is resuming services at their old location.

The church opened its doors for Sunday morning worship services in the new building on April 15. All activities have resumed at the 1768 W. Genesee St. Road location, Dow said, and a grand opening is slotted to take place sometime in September.

“It was a long 2.5 years, but we are grateful to be on-site and in our new building,” Dow said. The church congregation, he said, “went though a lot of mental and emotional (spiraling) trying to figure out what to do.”
