Two more former state troopers have joined the Cayuga Indian Nation Police Department. They will work for Col. Mark Lincoln, the first superintendent of the tribe’s new law enforcement branch.
James Stowell joins the department as a captain. He served in the Army and spent 26 years with the New York State Police, rising to the rank of zone sergeant. Stowell earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and recently completed an 11-year term as Cayuga County undersheriff.
June Worden will serve as a patrol sergeant. She served in the Marine Corps for nine years before joining the state police, rising to the rank of lieutenant. Worden has also worked for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety.
“With the addition of Capt. Stowell and Sgt. Worden, the Cayuga Nation Police Department leadership team has a combined 90 years of law enforcement experience,” Cayuga Nation leader Clint Halftown said.
Halftown said Lincoln has recruited nine other officers who are undergoing interviews, psychological exams, fitness testing, drug screening, and background checks.
Lincoln was hired in May after a 30-year career with the state police. He was a troop commander and criminal investigator. The Rochester Institute of Technology graduate is a Port Byron native who lives in Auburn.
