Residents spruce up Centreport Aqueduct Park in Brutus

The planting of a red maple tree in Centreport Aqueduct Park on Tuesday night culminated the town of Brutus’ efforts, which began in April, to have a community-wide tree planting event.

In April, the town received a $400 Arbor Day grant from the state’s Urban Community Forestry Council which provided the impetus the town needed to plant more trees in the park.

“We have a lot of vision for our (tree) committee to do more with the park. One of the things we want to do is plant some trees,” Brutus Supervisor James Hotaling said during an opening statement.

Hotaling later expressed gratitude for the Forestry Council, saying that it stimulated the town to plant more trees in the park even though the grant didn’t cover all the associated costs.
