Boeheim’s Army to play with experimental rule in The Basketball Tournament

The Basketball Tournament, a summer event that includes a $2 million winner-take-all cash prize, will be played this summer using an experimental rule designed to eliminate fouling at the end of games.

The TBT announced the rule change on Monday. Boeheim’s Army, a group of Syracuse alumni, have competed in the event the past three years, providing a summer diversion for SU basketball fans.

The new rule is called The Elam Ending. Rather than having the game end when the clock runs out, the Elam Ending requires teams to hit a target score instead. That score is different in every game, generated by adding seven points to the leading team’s total after the first deadball with 4 minutes remaining.
