Weedsport school district holds open house for new fitness center

Trish Frost didn’t wait long after entering the Weedsport school district’s new fitness center to try the equipment.

After testing out the shoulder press and chest press machines, among others, Frost said she was impressed by the new facility at Weedsport Junior-Senior High School. District students and community members got a sneak peak at the facility Saturday. It will officially open July 9. Frost said she feels the community needed a local center.

“I think that everyone should have the opportunity to be able to work out at a reasonable price (and) not feel intimated when you come in,” she said.

Frost was one of several community members of various ages who attended the open house. The center was part of a $14.9 million capital project approved by voters in 2015. The center offers both weight lifting and cardio equipment. Weights, elliptical machines, treadmills and more are scattered around the area, which is solidly green and white — the district’s colors — throughout. The district’s logo is plastered throughout the center, from a couple floor tiles to the sides of the equipment.
