Teen charged with DWI under Leandra’s Law after traffic stop in Penn Yan

Police say a 16-year-old was arrested on a felony DWI charge under Leandra’s Law after a traffic stop on Wednesday in the village.

William H. Rogers, 16, was charged with DWI Leandra’s Law, unlawful possession of marijuana and failure to keep right after the stop.

Police say that when they stopped the vehicle the odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. Rogers was placed through field sobriety tests, which he failed.

One of the passengers was 15-years-old, which made the DWI charge a felony, according to police.

He was arraigned in Penn Yan Village Court and will answer the charges at a later date.
