The most technologically advanced housing development in the northeastern United State will break ground on June 21st in the City of Geneva.
The project was awarded $1.25 million of the total $10M awarded through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative for the City of Geneva. The grant is administered through Empire State Development.
The Lake Tunnel Solar Village groundbreaking was announced on Wednesday after the project was given a green light by the city’s planning board. The solar powered homes are unique in that they work together during a grid outage to provide electricity, heat, and clean water for the residents.
The 32 unit development features townhomes and multi-family buildings. It is located a few steps from Seneca Lake in Downtown Geneva. The Solar Village is a demonstration project for The Solar Home Factory, which is the first modular home factory in the eastern United States to produce only solar powered smart homes. The Solar Home Factory will be located at 33 Forge Avenue in Geneva.
Construction will begin on the Solar Home Factory facility at the same time as the village, with the first homes rolling off the production line just as the site work is completed at the Solar Village. The Lake Tunnel Solar Village LLC is a woman-owned development company run by Marita Wallace and Tracey Wallace.
First occupancy in the development is scheduled for December of 2018.
