Bloomfield freshman Alex Kenyon named All-American diver

Alex Kenyon, a Bloomfield Freshman, has been named a 2017-2018 NISCA/Speedo Boys One Meter Diving All-American.  Alex is the 2018 Section V Class D Champion and 9th place finisher at the 2018 NYSPHSAA State Championships.  He is one of 9 Freshman in the entire United States to be named All American and one of only 5 New York Student Athletes to be so honored.

The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All American Team is open to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade student athletes who must compete for an interscholastic team and meet academic eligibility requirements.  Alex competed for Bloomfield as a “Team of One” and was hosted by Canandaigua’s Swimming and Diving Team.  Coach Becca Kraft said, “Alex is an incredibly hard worker. He comes to practice each day with an innate desire to improve from the day before. The honor of being an All America Diver is well deserved. I look forward to seeing his accomplishments over the next three years​.”

Alex had a successful first year of High School diving. In his very first meet, he won the Hilton Diving Invitational and qualified for the State Championships. He later won the Rush-Henrietta Diving Invitational. He won the Class D Sectionals, setting a new sectional record by over 70 points with a winning score of 533.15. Alex finished 9th in the New York State Championships, with the highest score by a Freshman or Sophomore and the second highest score of all of the Section V divers.

Alex is a member of Upstate New York Diving, an AAU and USA Diving club team based at the Rochester Institute of Technology.  Upstate is the 2017 AAU Diving National Champions in Men’s, Women’s and Combined Team events. Alex has been diving 1 Meter, 3 Meter and Platform for Upstate for 6 years, competing nationally and internationally. Alex is a multiple Niagara District Champion on 1 and 3 meter boards, New York State AAU Champion on both boards and a podium finisher at several national meets.  Alex’s Upstate teammate, Pittsford graduating Senior David Petrison, was also named to the NISCA All American Team.

Alex recently returned from Coral Springs, FL where he finished in 7th place on all three boards in the AAU Red, White and Blue National Championships. Alex and his Upstate teammates next head to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete in the USA Diving Zone A Championships, June 29, – July 2. Later in the summer they will compete in the AAU National Championships in San Antonio, Texas and the USA Diving National Championships at Georgia Tech, in the 1996 Olympic Diving Well.

Alex lives in East Bloomfield with his parents, Heather & Russ, and his sister, a rising Bloomfield Senior, Mackenzie.B
