Ron Whitcomb received some advice back in 1991 when he was deciding whether to leave his alma mater, East Rochester, to become the new athletic director at Victor Central Schools.
“Take the job,” outgoing AD Jeffrey Crane told Whitcomb. “Victor is a sleeping giant.”
Crane, West Irondequoit’s superintendent since 2003, couldn’t have been more right, and Whitcomb, now 63, plans to use Crane’s analogy in his own retirement speech in the next few weeks.
“The sleeping giant,” Whitcomb says, “has awakened.”
