An Auburn man was arrested Thursday and charged with taking advantage of welfare programs by receiving over $3,000 in undeserved benefits.
John Brown, 50, was picked up at his 162 E. Genesee St. home on an arrest warrant, following the completion of an investigation that spanned from April 7, 2017, to Nov. 8. Police said that this was a long-term investigation involving the Cayuga County Department of Social Services.
Police said Brown had reported inaccurate information regarding household members, income and employment in order to file for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
