Police: Auburn man arrested for domestic incident involving gun

An Auburn man was arrested on multiple charges, including one felony, following a domestic incident involving a gun.

Auburn police say that the incident happened on May 29th when Robert Maher, 38, threatened a 27-year-old female victim with what appeared to be a pistol. The Auburn Police Department says the victim reported that Maher took a handgun out of a box and placed what she believed to be the gun’s muzzle against her head during a domestic incident.

The victim also said that her right hand was injured during the incident.

It was ultimately reported by a third-party complaint as Maher also prevented the victim from calling 911 by taking her cell phone and breaking it on the ground.

On Wednesday police picked up Maher on an arrest warrant for third-degree criminal possession of a weapon — a felony, as well as two counts of criminal mischief and menacing. He was also charged with unlawful imprisonment.

He was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail and will answer the charges at a later date.
