Hearing Thursday on lawsuit against Section V over Red Creek basketball player’s ejection

The final week of the high school sports season may bring some closure to a saga that started in late February when a Red Creek basketball player was ejected from a Section V Tournament game.

Justice J. Scott Odorisi is scheduled to rule on a motion to dismiss “and other matters,” according to Section V attorney Robert G. Lamb, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hall of Justice in Rochester. The controversial case involves the parents of a Red Creek girls player challenging Section V failing to have an appeals process for players who, by state rule, must serve a one-game suspension after being ejected from a game. Matt Wilbur, the parent of Red Creek freshman guard Izzy Wilbur, filed an injunction in state Supreme Court that was upheld by Odorisi. It allowed Izzy Wilbur to play in the semifinals after she was ejected from a Feb. 24 quarterfinal win.
