Seneca County Sheriff Tim Luce reports a fatal one-car accident that happened on Marshall Road in Fayette over the weekend.
The accident happened on Saturday around 4 p.m. when deputies initially observed a vehicle speeding northbound on Route 96. They attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but when the vehicle pulled over to the side — it quickly took back off — refusing to stop.
The vehicle, which was identified as a dark gray Saturn continued to drive recklessly, nearly striking other northbound vehicles before crossing through lanes of traffic.
Luce says the driver turned onto Marshall Road where he lost control on a curve and Hillcrest.
The vehicle sideswiped a utility pole, flipped over, and ended in a field.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to deputies — who identified that individual as Larry D Murphy, 67, of Palmyra.
He was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
Luce says Murphy’s license was revoked and alcohol appears to have been a factor.
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Village of Waterloo Police, Town of Seneca Falls Police, New York State Troopers, North Seneca Ambulance, and Waterloo Fire Department.
