Bassist Zane Carnes and Violinist Jimmy Drancsak

When: Sunday June 3rd at 2PM

Where: Willard Memorial Chapel

Auburn based bassist Zane Carnes enjoys performing in genres ranging through classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, and rock. He is currently a student in Ithaca College School of Music studying Music Performance – Double Bass in the studio of Nicholas Walker, class of 2020. In the summer of 2017, he studied with Juno Award-winning double bassist and pedagogue Joel Quarrington at Orford Musique in Quebec. This summer, he plans on attending Domaine Forget in Quebec to study with orchestral bassists from across the United States and Canada, as well as French bass virtouso François Rabbath. Locally, Zane can be seen performing regularly with Jon Peterson in folk rock group Edgy Folk.  In 2015, he was featured on WSYR News Channel 9’s “Extraordinary talent of the Week” program, and returned in 2017 performing in “Extraordinary Live” program at the Syracuse War Memorial Theater.

Jimmy Drancsak just finished his sophomore year at the State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music studying music education and violin performance. A graduate of Skaneateles High School in 2016, Jimmy has now performed with Grammy- Award winning cellist Quill Bailey, Amr-abul Naga (principle horn of the Cairo Symphony), and has done master classes with baroque violinist Marie Nadeau and Cleveland Orchestra violinist Jiah Chapdelaine. Jimmy currently studies with Dr. David Colwell and performs regularly with the Fredonia College Orchestra, Fredonia School of Music Chamber Orchestra (Dr. David Rudge), the Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra, and the Southern Tier Symphony. In the summer of 2018 Jimmy will be spending two weeks at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music for an intensive study in baroque violin performance. Aside from classical performance, Jimmy loves teaching music as well as playing the fiddle in styles ranging from the British Isles to the Klezmer tradition.

Jimmy and Zane have been playing together since the two of them met in the Syracuse Youth Orchestra and Auburn Chamber Orchestra as students in high school. They first performed as a duo collaborating on fiddle repertoire, particularly of the Appalachian and Irish folk traditions. This musical connection slowly fostered into classical duo playing as well, drawing from their backgrounds as classically trained musicians. Today, the two enjoy performing music together in a range of styles, and can be seen performing in the Central New York Area, often with the folk rock group “Edgy Folk”.

This is the second in the series of three concerts to be presented by men who grew up in Auburn and have come back to play in History’s Hometown. In addition to Zane Carnes and Jimmy Drancsak, pianist John Liberatore will be performing on July 1st.

The concert benefits the Community Preservation Committee’s care of the Willard Memorial Chapel. Admission is $10 per person at the door. The Chapel is handicap accessible through its north entrance off Seymour Street.
