In a game short on hits, Auburn turned to sacrifice bunts to score runs.
That strategy was enough to put the tying run in scoring position, but the Maroons needed one more ball to fall in to extend the season.
Auburn softball was defeated by Cicero-North Syracuse 3-2 in the Section III, Class AA semifinals Saturday at Gillette Road Middle School in Cicero. The Maroons were held to six hits in the game, with only one of the extra-base variety.
