Brighton girls lacrosse tops Victor in semifinals

Brighton senior Rene Gangarosa and most of her classmates were born in 2000 — or two years into the Barons’ streak of winning 11 consecutive Section V girls lacrosse championships. It started in 1998 and lasted through 2008. This spring Brighton wants to end a more dubious streak. It has gone four years since its last crown — the longest “drought” in coach Rich Curtis’ 23 seasons.

“Finish What We Started,” is the Barons’ team slogan and Friday night’s 11-2 win over fifth-seeded Victor in the Class B semifinals puts them one step closer to doing that. Top-seeded Brighton (13-5) scored four times in the first six minutes and led 7-0 before the Blue Devils (11-6) got on the scoreboard after being blanked for nearly 30 minutes.
