The Finger Lakes Welcome Center at the city’s Lakefront Park has opened its doors.

The fences placed around the former Geneva Visitors Center by Massa Construction of Geneva are gone, and on Monday afternoon people were sipping beverages on the deck overlooking Seneca Lake.
At water’s edge, a couple from out of town were exchanging wedding vows.
The nautically themed playground, designed by the Strong National Museum of Play, was bustling with activity as well.
An official at the new Welcome Center, who asked not to be identified because she is not an official state spokesperson, said the “soft opening” started early last week to give staff time to get acclimated.
A few snafus already have cropped up, she noted, including the waterfall at the entrance to the Welcome Center. It stopped working but is expected to be running again soon.
Inside, the spacious Great Room highlights the history and attractions of the Finger Lakes region, as defined by the state to include not only Ontario, Seneca and Yates counties, but others in the Rochester metropolitan region, including Wayne and Monroe counties. The room features a large LED screen depicting Finger Lakes attractions. There is bar seating and tables in this expansive area as well.
