‘This is your day’: Cayuga Community College graduates hundreds at commencement

More than 200 new graduates from Cayuga Community College walked across the stage to receive their associate degrees during the college’s 64th commencement ceremony on Sunday.

The Auburn campus’ Spartan Gymnasium became filled with family and friends, many with bouquets or balloons in hand, and excited chatter as the time of the ceremony grew closer.

Graduates entered the gymnasium soon after 11 a.m. Smiles crept on faces and hands shot up in the air to give a wave as those donned in caps and gowns spotted their supporters and loved ones in the audience.

“Graduates — this is your day,” said CCC President Brian Durant as he opened the commencement exercise. He noted that no two students, among the nearly 600 graduating this year, have the same story. “This diversity of students, and the opportunity for all to be able to share who you are and learn from each other, is part of what makes a Cayuga education so special.”

Durant acknowledged that each graduate will take their own paths as alumni, and encouraged them to have confidence in their talent and knowledge as they move forward in life.

“Work towards your dreams with the same dedication you demonstrated to all of us,” Durant said as he completed his opening remarks.
