Soggy weekend ahead in the Finger Lakes

The weather was gorgeous on Thursday, and Friday will remain tranquil — but change over the next 48 hours is on the way.

FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil reports that a broad southerly flow across the Southeast United States has resulted in a large area of abnormally high atmospheric moisture. That high pressure system to the north has been keeping moisture away — but as it pulls out over the next 24 hours — that dry stretch will come to an end.

Rain should start to move in from the south after midnight. By daybreak, widespread, steady rain should cover the entire region. This rain should continue for several hours before tapering off during the late morning and midday hours. Rain amounts should be roughly around a half-inch, with some areas seeing a couple tenths of an inch more, and some less, according to Montreuil. Showers and drizzle will continue throughout the day.

Temperatures will improve on Sunday — but a slight risk for showery weather will remain.
