Salt Point Brewing Co. opens in Lansing

Kelly Lanham makes a great sandwich.

That was the considered opinion of Helen Baker, of Myers, who was making her way through a grilled roast beef and bleu on a pouring down rainy day in April.

Helen was having a cider wine with her sandwich, which was curious, as she was at the Salt Point Brewing Co. in support of her neighbors, Chris and Sarah Hesse, and their new brewery to the right of Rogues’ Harbor Inn in Lansing.

Down the old oak floor bartop, Meaghan Reddy and Ashley Guerrette were sampling two specialties of the house — a “hazy India Pale Ale” and a dark Saison that Meghan rated as “really delicious.”

(The two have visited more than 100 breweries in the past two years, so their opinions are not uninformed.)

Salt Point opened April 4 and is the project of Sarah and Chris and their partners, Camilo and Alexandra Bohorquez. Camilo and Chris had been brewing in their basements together for two years when they realized that they were making pretty good beer.
