Lyons resident charged in welfare fraud investigation

Investigators in Ontario County arrested a 57-year-old Lyons resident following a welfare fraud investigation.

Sharod Huff, 57, of Lyons was charged with one count of fourth-degree welfare fraud and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing — after filing an application for temporary assistance, of which he was not entitled.

Investigators say that Huff was granted over $2,135 in temporary assistance from November 2017 through April 2018. However, there was more than $6,600 of unreported income.

He was issued appearance tickets and will answer the charges at a later date.
