Auburn police: Man stole vehicle from parking lot, sold it for scrap

The Auburn Police Department has made an arrest after a man allegedly stole a vehicle from a parking lot and sold it for scrap.

On April 22, the department received a walk-in report that a vehicle was stolen from the Auburn Plaza parking lot on Grant Avenue. Police said the theft occurred on April 20.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle had been towed from the lot and scrapped. Police said the man accused of stealing the vehicle, Clinton C. Allwood, 29, claimed to be the owner of the vehicle and had it towed from the lot after agreeing to sell the vehicle for a set price.

Because of Allwood's alleged actions, the transaction led to false entries to the scrap company's business records, Department of Motor Vehicles documents and involved the company in the theft and destruction of the vehicle, police said.
