Bella restaurant in Geneva reopens this week

A downtown restaurant that closed earlier this year as part of an effort to find new business partners is back open — and with a new name.

Bellas Sicilian Ristorante, formerly La Mia Bella Sicilia, opens its 93 Seneca St. doors at 5 p.m. today and closes at 10. Tomás Gonzalez closed the eatery in February as he sought additional owners.

Gonzalez is now working in partnership with Mike Kerr and Dick Austin.

“We didn’t want to let the dream die,” Austin said in a video posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Kerr said he loved the restaurant as a patron.

Austin, the majority partner, said Thursday that he connected with Gonzalez just a bit after he announced the restaurant was closing temporarily. He did not know Kerr before the two expressed interested in becoming partners with Gonzalez.

“For the most part, it is Tomás and I doing the business operations,” said Austin.

The biggest change on the menu is beef, said Austin, explaining that a Sicilian-style steak has been added that he believes is like nothing that can be found anywhere else in Geneva. He expects it to be the star of the menu in a short time.
