One of Ben Cowles’ first memories of baseball came after one mighty swing of a bat.
The pitch came and Cowles connected, driving the ball through a window of his family’s home in Newark, Wayne County.
Cowles was 6 or 7 years old, and after thousands of swings and sprinting around diamonds in hundreds of games, the senior has an athletic scholarship to play Division I college ball at the University of Maryland in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Now, 6-feet, 1-inches tall and about 175 pounds, Cowles has come a long way from that day when he took his dad, Darren, deep while in the family’s driveway.
