The Weedsport Board of Trustees voted to hire a full-time female employee in the department of public works on Wednesday, a first for the village.
At the end of a regular meeting, the board, including Mayor Jean Saroodis and Assistant DPW Superintendent Jeff Goodell, entered an executive session “to talk about an employee’s probation,” Saroodis said.
The decision made in the brief executive session was to hire Carson DiRisio as a full-time motor equipment operator for the village.
“Our probationary employee now has her MEO and she will, as of tomorrow, be a full-time MEO operator with six-months probation,” deputy mayor Chere Perkins said.
After the meeting, Trustee Steve Sims said the probationary period is standard, “per civil service,” once an employee gains a full-time position. He later added that DiRisio is “the first full-time female DPW employee” that he’s ever known of to work in the village.
