NO CHARGES FILED: Infant returned to temporary guardian after being located in Geneva

Update #2 – No Charges Filed

On May 10th at 5:40 a.m., the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a child that was removed from a residence located at 325 Rock Cabin Road in the Village of Montour Falls.

The child, Gionna K. Harter, who is under 1-month-old, was removed by her mother Katrina M. Harter.

Katrina Harter, who had two previous children removed from her by court order was in the process of having the custody of Gionna transferred to another party with whom she was living.

Katrina took Gionna to the City of Geneva in Ontario County where they were later located safe and sound.

Gionna has been turned over to the third-party that was awarded temporary custody on May 9th, and there is a pending hearing in Schuyler County Family later this month.

There are no criminal charges pending against Katrina at this time.


Update #1 – Child Located

Police say Gionna K. Harter, the missing 15-day-old has been located safe and sound in the City of Geneva by authorities.

Authorities report that Geneva Police and State Police Officers located the missing child who was reported missing during the afternoon. 

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office thanked the public for calling in tips and providing information to assist in the investigation.  Law Enforcement has followed up on over 100 leads throughout Schuyler, Ontario, Wayne, Monroe, Erie, Seneca, and Yates Counties, according to investigators. 

The following agencies actively assisted during the investigation:  The Wayne and Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Geneva Police Department, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, New York State Department of Corrections,  and U.S. Border Patrol.


Original Report

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a missing infant from Rock Cabin Road in the Village of Montour Falls.

The infant, Gionna K. Harter is 15-days-old and is believed to have been removed from the residence by her mother Katrina M. Harter. The 31-year-old is believed to have taken the child to avoid service of a Family Court Order to turn the child over to another party.



Harter is believed to be in the Geneva area and has family in Wayne County.

Anyone with information about the location of Gionna or Katrina Harter is asked to call the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office at (607) 535-8222 or our confidential tip line at (607) 535-8224.

The Wayne and Ontario County Sheriff’s Offices, Geneva Police Department and New York State Police are actively assisting in the investigation.
