UPDATE: Lyons man dies after being struck by vehicle

Deputies say one person was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Stoney Lonesome Road in Williamson on Monday.

The accident happened around 6:20 p.m., according to deputies who say that Stuart Pearson, 68, of Ontario was traveling west on Lake Road — approaching the intersection of White Birch Cove — when he struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

Melven Shelter, 20, of Lyons had exited a parked vehicle on the south side of the roadway — when he then crossed the road — walking into the path of the vehicle.

Shelter was seriously injured as result of the collision and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy Flight. Shelter was listed in critical condition, according to deputies. However, he died Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing, according to deputies. Williamson Fire Department and Pultneyville Fire Department assisted at the scene, as well as Williamson Ambulance.

No charges had been filed, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
