SWAT team responds after Auburn police think woman was taken against her will

A SWAT team set up a perimeter around an Auburn home Sunday morning after police thought a woman had been taken from her vehicle against her will, Auburn police Detective B. Bergenstock said.

Auburn police were dispatched at 5:53 a.m. to the area of Grover Street for an “unknown trouble call,” the detective said. When officers arrived, they “determined that a domestic, possibly involving a weapon had occurred, and a female had reportedly been taken from her vehicle against her will,” Bergenstock said in a news release.

“An immediate search began for a suspect vehicle and a possible suspect, Tyrone Matthews, after the victim’s car was found abandoned on Orchard Ave.,” he said.

Police found the suspect’s vehicle at 48 Chapman Ave. But Matthews was not inside the vehicle so a perimeter was set up around the home.

“Due to the potential of a weapon being involved a negotiation team, and SWAT team were called in,” Bergenstock said in the release.
