Maryland man killed in Yates County crash on Rt. 14

State Police say a 74-year-old Maryland man died in a car accident on State Route 14 in Yates County.

The accident happened Wednesday night, and resulted in the road to be closed for upwards of three hours as crews cleaned up the scene.

Police say Harry Grant was traveling south on Route 14 around 7:30 when he pulled to the right and made a quick left turn. In the process of turning, he pulled in front of a tractor-trailer, which struck him.

Police say the tractor-trailer was unable to avoid the collision, despite the operator’s attempt to do so. Grant was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.

He died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
