Deputies: Drivers had to slam on brakes to avoid child left in Butler roadway

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 69-year-old Butler resident after an investigation into a child, who was playing in the middle of a country road.

Kenneth E. Bond, 69, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation into a domestic dispute.

Bond allegedly allowed his 6-year-old daughter to play in the middle of Whiskey Hill Road in the Town of Butler while he was inside of the residence not supervising the child.

According to witnesses multiple vehicles traveling in the area had to slam on the brakes in order to avoid striking the child.

Following arraignment in the Town of Wolcott Court before Judge Lachnicht, he was remanded to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $250 cash bail and $500 secured bond.

Bond is scheduled to reappear before the Town of Butler Court at a later date for further proceedings.
