Jazz, Rock concert at Cayuga Community College

The Cayuga Community College Jazz Combo and Rock Ensemble Spring Concerts on May 8th will feature students performing songs from legendary performers and songwriters.

Professor Michael Cortese, who is also music coordinator for Cayuga’s School of Music and the Arts, said the Jazz Combo will perform compositions by Herbie Mann, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and Eddie Harris.  The songs will feature all members improvising solos and the music will also showcase different jazz styles.

The Rock Ensemble, which this year features vocals, guitar, piano, saxophone, bass and drums, will perform songs by The Beatles, Dawes and other groups.

“We are proud of all the hard work that the students have put in to rehearsing and preparing for these performances.  Professor Richard Balestra and I are excited for the students to get on stage and present this music to the public,”  said Cortese.

The Rock Ensemble includes Connor VanEpps on guitar and vocals, Brian Thomas on saxophone and keyboards, Ed Vivenzio on bass and Eric Mohan on drums. The Jazz Combo features Lillian Distin on flute, VanEpps on guitar and piano, Thomas, Vivenzio and Mohan.

Students will take the stage at 7 p.m. in room M157 at Cayuga’s Auburn Campus at 197 Franklin Street. Admission is free and open to the public.
