Weedsport Fire Department puts new rescue pumper in service

The Weedsport Fire Department recently put a new rescue pumper truck into service, a culmination of three years of work and over $750,000.

The rescue pumper replaced two other trucks — a 1990 fire engine and a 1992 rescue truck — the fire department previously had, and have since auctioned off, Chief David James said.

"Combing those two trucks into one certainly was quite a challenge," James said, adding that a truck committee of fire department members spent about three years evaluating equipment and speaking with different dealers.

The fire department ended up working with Firehouse Apparatus, out of Locke, and the truck was assembled by 4-GUYS Fire Truck Manufacturing Company.
